THE VALLEY, ANGUILLA — Saints Cosmas and Damian Health Sciences College announced today that its separately chartered counterpart in the Cayman Islands has received accreditation from Accreditation Services for International Schools, Colleges and Universities (ASIC), a United Kingdom-based global educational accreditor with a longstanding presence in the Caymans.

The accreditation announcement provides an opportunity to explain the distinct roles of the Anguilla and Cayman Islands organizations.

The Anguilla entity operates as a credentials-verification clearinghouse. Its work focuses on reviewing educational credentials, professional licenses, specialty certifications, and related qualifications through independent evaluation and original-source verification procedures.

The Cayman Islands institution provides continuing professional education and lifelong-learning opportunities for already licensed health care professionals, principally physicians and pharmacists. Its programs are intended for continuing professional development and do not provide entry-level medical or pharmacy training leading to professional licensure.

Maintaining separate institutions in separate jurisdictions promotes organizational transparency and ensures that educational activities and credential-evaluation services are administered independently according to their respective objectives.

“Credentials verification and continuing professional education serve different purposes,” explained Bruce D. White, DO, JD, Principal and Vice-Chancellor. “Separate organizations allow each entity to focus on its own mission. We sought accreditation voluntarily because independent review, external quality assurance, and institutional accountability strengthen public confidence.”

Both Anguilla and the Cayman Islands are English-speaking British Overseas Territories with established legal, educational, and professional frameworks that accommodate international students, visitors, and professionals. The Cayman Islands was selected as the home of Saints Cosmas and Damian’s continuing professional education activities in part because of its longstanding tradition of supporting internationally recognized institutions of higher learning. ASIC has accredited Cayman Islands colleges for many years, including International College of the Cayman Islands (ICCI) and University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI).

Information regarding continuing professional education programs offered by the Cayman Islands institution is available at: www.stcosmas.education.

Information regarding credential-verification services offered by the Anguilla institution is available at: www.stcosmas.org.

Although the institutions share a common commitment to health care professionals, both recognize and support the essential role of professional licensing boards, specialty board certifiers, accredited medical schools, and accredited colleges of pharmacy, while emphasizing transparency and accuracy in representations to patients and the public.
